How To Achieve Your Ideal Summer Style

Summer is officially here, and that means our days are longer, and our dressing options are simple and light weight.

Curating a wardrobe you enjoy, and love to wear requires assessing your lifestyle, your wardrobe needs, and what sparks joy when you get dressed. As a stylist, I am often thinking of other people, and their needs, and to protect my creativity,I look for comfortable, classic styles, that are simple and easy to wear for myself. However, when I attend an event, I really like to dress up and take my look to another level. I am always assessing my personal wardrobe to find what works best for my life, and I do the same for my clients. Getting dressed can be fun, when you know what you love.

Here are 3 ways to asses your current wardrobe, and find outfits you love.

  1. What is my lifestyle, and what pieces will work best to support my personal style? ( do you work from home, do you go to an office, do you like to wash your clothes, or is dry cleaning preferred etc)

  2. What pieces did I wear last summer did I love the most, how can I incorporate finding new versions of the items I love? ( I lived in shorts, but I bought so many dresses. I lived in my linen set, and not much else etc)

  3. What did I find was the best uniform in spring? How can I look to past seasons to inspire me for the current season. ( In the spring I wore a lot of wide leg jeans, so I am going to look for wide leg summer pants)

Utilizing these three questions will help you figure out what you love and what you don’t, and the next time you get dressed or add to your closet you’ll have a list of items that spark joy vs. a closet full of options that don’t. ( By the way, I can help with that, check out my services here)

Using these questions here are 4 looks I styled based on different lifestyle and personal dressing needs.

Look 1: Charlotte is a NYC mom who often travels to the Hamptons, and the DC area to visit her family. She’s looking for casual looks that are chic, with a bit of an edge. She loves athleisure, and wants an element of that in her style, but wants to feel fashionable.

Look 2: Rebecca recently had a milestone birthday, and feels she needs to adjust her style and hemlines. She spends a lot of time at her home in Palm Beach, and wants a summer dress she can wear casually, and easily dress up for cocktail hour.

Look 3: Sophie works from home, but often runs to lunch meetings, she wants to feel comfortable at her desk, while stepping out for lunch meetings during the week. She’s on a budget, and needs every item to be under $150

Look 4: Claire is headed to Cabo for a quick weekend escape, she wants to wear an outfit multiple ways, but doesn’t want to wear basics.
